About Us

Gearing & Watson Electronics Ltd (GW) has been established since 1973 as a specialist designer and manufacturer of moving coil exciters, high power amplifiers, shaker tables, complex signal generators and closed loop control systems. The company is accredited to ISO 9001 for quality assurance and is an approved defence contractor.

GW maintains a strong design capability; the company has invested in a suite of design tools including finite element analysis, magnetics analysis and fluid dynamics analysis. These tools permit new designs to be modelled to confirm dynamic performance before committing to the manufacturing process. During year 2000 GW won a UK Department of Trade and Industry SMART award for the use of increased technology in vibration testing equipment & systems.

GW is based in Hailsham, East Sussex, near the south coast of England.

Sonar Technology

  • Sonar training for active and passive sonar operators
  • Sonar performance proving
  • Influence minesweeping
  • Oceanographic and propagation research
  • Sonar Transducer Tests operating from 4Hz to 1MHz

Since 1973 Gearing & Watson has built an impressive range of sonar technology. GW now offers complete turnkey solutions including sonar transducer tests, drive electronics, towfish, tow cables, full handling systems, trials support and through life service

The product range is led by Subtrack - a sonar technology which may be towed from a craft of opportunity, hull mounted on a submarine, deployed statically or mounted on the seabed. Subtrack is a sound source which generates the acoustic signature normally associated with a submarine or surface target. The system may also include an echo repeat capability to provide a realistic target for active sonars.

Vibration Test Equipment

Vibration testing equipment include shaker tables with force outputs from 9N to 53kN with the following features:

  • Permanent magnet shaker tables
  • Electro-magnet shaker tables
  • Modal shaker tables
  • Inertial shaker tables
  • Shaker tables with 50mm and 63mm displacement
  • Low noise shakers for squeak and rattle testing
  • Load bearing platforms and head expanders
  • Specialist fixture design capability
  • Slip plates with high performance guidance bearings
  • PC based multi-channel control systems
  • Automatic load support
  • Chamber interfaces
Our biggest feature is RELIABILITY, if you want low maintenance, low through-life cost and a high level of availability then GW’s vibration testing equipment will meet your needs.
